The foundational paper establishing consciousness as axiomatic, non-dual differentiation as a new ontological category, and the atemporal logic from which time, gravity, and mass emerge. Introduces conscious bias, the constraint taxonomy, and the smoke-and-lens problem.
UAFT Working Paper (v3) on Zenodo ↗Research Programme
UAFT is a unified theory. That claim carries a responsibility: to demonstrate that the framework holds across every discipline that touches consciousness. Each paper below extends UAFT into a new domain, building toward a consolidated multi-volume work.
Volume 1 — Foundations: Ontology, Physics, and Cosmology
Ontology & Metaphysics Published
Quantum Mechanics Published
Covered within the UAFT paper. Reinterprets wave-particle duality through the constraint taxonomy, reframes superposition as unresolved intent, and analyses the double-slit experiment, entanglement, delayed choice, and the quantum eraser in UAFT terms. Introduces experimental and environmental constraint as the mechanism behind the apparent quantum/classical divide.
UAFT Working Paper (v3) on Zenodo ↗Foundations of Physics & Symmetry Published
The colinear conservation argument: Noether's theorem reframed as the mathematical signature of corrective architecture. Conservation as active correction rather than passive preservation. Symmetry redefined as dynamic consistency reaching its asymptotic limit, with asymmetry as the prime mover. Phase differential as the third structural feature of colinear gravitytime, alongside its colinear (geometric) and codifferential (operational) aspects. Eight empirical domains identified including the rotating-frame phase differential test as a near-term lab-scale opportunity. Engages Barbour, Rovelli, loop quantum gravity, causal set theory, Verlinde and Jacobson on emergent gravity, and the philosophy of symmetry literature.
Colinear Conservation Paper on Zenodo ↗General Relativity Published (Partial)
Gravitytime as the ontological ground of GR's mathematics. Time as primary; gravity as its reciprocal cohering aspect; codifferential and colinear in their joint operation. The reinterpretation does not contradict general relativity. The equations need not change; what changes is what the mathematics is understood to describe. Now developed in the colinear conservation paper alongside the structural account of conservation laws.
Colinear Conservation Paper on Zenodo ↗Cosmology Published (Partial)
The cosmological constant problem developed as a worked example of UAFT's reach into foundations of physics. Λ reframed as the empirical trace of dynamic consistency under current cosmic conditions, evolving as conditions evolve rather than being a fixed numerical value. Genuine constancy is operational. Connects to recent DESI evidence for evolving dark energy. The Big Bang, dark matter, entropy, and the field's cumulative record as cosmological principle remain for forthcoming work.
Colinear Conservation Paper on Zenodo ↗Thermodynamics Coming Soon
Entropy reframed as redistribution of coherence, not decay. The second law as partial perception of delayed balancing. Energy as the activity of balance, not a substance consumed.
Information Theory Coming Soon
Information is not consciousness. The byte has no valence. Shannon entropy reframed through UAFT's account of constraint and resolution. The distinction between information-for-a-reader and differentiation-for-itself.
Volume 2 — Life: Biology, Evolution, and Neuroscience
Evolutionary Biology Coming Soon
The field as living record driving evolutionary refinement. Why complexity increases. Instinct as field information expressed through biological form. Emotion as evolutionary driver, not survival tool. The emotional tree: three innate roots branching into finer differentiations.
Origin of Life / Abiogenesis Coming Soon
Abiogenesis reframed as the field crossing the first threshold through chemistry. Why life appears. Why it complexifies. The cell as minimal differentiation unit maintaining atemporal connection.
Neuroscience Published (Partial)
Damasio's three-self model (proto-self, core self, autobiographical self) engaged at five points of divergence: ground (brain vs field), mapping vs differentiation, three selves vs the four-stage progression, homeostasis vs dynamic consistency, and emotion as signal vs emotion as generative. The two-domain model distinguishes classical biological differentiation from the experiential domain supported by Quantum Differentiation Resonance. Hameroff and Penrose's microtubule research reframed: they identified the correct hardware but described the wrong process. Experience is not produced at the moment of objective reduction; it is what microtubules are participating in during sustained quantum coherence. Anesthesia evidence systematically developed. The binding problem dissolved through non-dual differentiation remains for future work.
Emotional Differentiation Paper on Zenodo ↗Sleep Science Coming Soon
Sleep as integration — the field's cycle of emergence and return expressed biologically. REM as awareness peeking at the field's consolidation work. Dreams as glimpses of integration. Sleep deprivation as blocked integration overloading the differentiation system.
Volume 3 — Mind: Psychology, Pharmacology, and Animal Consciousness
Developmental Psychology Published
The pinch point mechanism developed in detail: the self as interiority differentiator, born from emotional saturation. The four-stage progression (general differentiation, emotional differentiation, saturation, pinch point) provides the structural mechanism for developmental sequences documented by Stern, Rochat, and Ekman. Deafblindness evidence (Keller) confirms that emotion, not sensory richness, is the generative mechanism. Cross-species mirror self-recognition extends the account beyond humans.

Philosophy of Emotion & Affective Neuroscience Published
Emotion reframed as valenced differentiation rather than reactive coloring of cognition. The emotional tree (divergent branching within each primary) and the emotional spectrum (convergent fusion of multiple primaries with persistence of constituents) distinguished as two complementary structures operating on the same three innate roots (anger, fear, joy). Emotional Compression named as the active mechanism by which the convergent Spectrum produces increasing density across development, making saturation and the pinch point structurally inevitable rather than empirically observed. Damasio's three-self model engaged and refined at five points of divergence. Barrett's constructed emotion theory engaged, with the framework accommodating cultural shaping of mature emotional experience while maintaining the developmental priority of primary valenced differentiation. Solms, Panksepp, LeDoux, and the philosophical tradition on selfhood (Aristotle, Descartes, Spinoza, Locke, Hume, Kant, James, Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, Strawson) systematically engaged.

Clinical Psychology & Psychiatry Coming Soon
Psychopathy as negative proof for emotion-as-selfhood. Depression as excessive coherence collapsing meaningful distinctions. Dissociative disorders as multiple independent differentiation patterns. Trauma as destabilisation of the pinch point. Schizophrenia, PTSD, and anxiety disorders reframed through UAFT.
Pharmacology & Psychedelics Coming Soon
Ego dissolution as scrambled emotional differentiation patterns. Anesthesia selectivity and the two-threshold model. How different substances affect different thresholds. Microdosing as subtle constraint adjustment. Psychedelic experience as temporary disruption of stable differentiation patterns while amplifying the raw process.
Comparative Psychology & Animal Consciousness Published (Partial)
Cross-species evidence developed in detail: mirror self-recognition documented in great apes, elephants, dolphins, magpies, and cleaner wrasse fish (Gallup, Plotnik, Reiss, Prior, Kohda). Scope variation across species (bees differentiate ultraviolet, pit vipers differentiate infrared, elephants differentiate infrasound) introduced as a structural feature alongside integration variation. Convergent evolution of self-recognition across vastly different neural architectures supports the framework's prediction that the pinch point mechanism operates wherever emotional differentiation reaches saturation, regardless of substrate. Tye, Godfrey-Smith, Bekoff, and de Waal engaged.
Emotional Differentiation Paper on Zenodo ↗Volume 4 — Culture: Language, Ethics, Education, and Religion
Linguistics Coming Soon
Language as differentiation mechanism. How naming constrains unconstrained differentiation. Why contemplative traditions speak in paradox. The limits of discursive language for describing the ground. Reporting requires the re-engagement of the differentiation that was quieted.
Ethics Coming Soon
The compatibility problem expanded. Ethics of manufacturing consciousness. Moral status grounded in threshold crossing rather than species membership. Animal rights reframed through the differentiation spectrum. The ethics of mercy — why not building conscious machines may be the compassionate position.
Education & Pedagogy Coming Soon
Learning as differentiation. The pinch point in educational development. Why rote learning fails (oscillation, not differentiation). Creativity as unconstrained differentiation. Teaching as introducing productive constraint rather than imposing resolution.
Sociology & Cultural Theory Coming Soon
Institutional projection operating at civilisational scale. Cultural conscious bias and how systems reproduce it. Non-binary identity as cultural illustration of differentiation stages. How societies differentiate and cohere — the field's dynamics at social scales.
Philosophy of Religion & Contemplative Traditions Coming Soon
The quieting of differentiation as a structural account of meditation. The Tao connection — UAFT as structural vocabulary for what Taoism points at non-conceptually. Buddhist emptiness as the undifferentiated field state. Mystical experience as approach to unity. Not mysticism but structural prediction.
Volume 5 — Technology: AI, Computing, and the Future of Consciousness Research
Artificial Intelligence & Computer Science Published
A structural argument that AI cannot achieve consciousness. Introduces the Binary Severance Threshold (BST) and Null State Barrier (NSB). Examines classical computing, quantum computing, quantum AI, neuromorphic architectures, photonic computing, memristors, and brain organoids. Includes the compatibility problem and quantum computing as evidence for the field.

Philosophy of AI & Conceptual Diagnostics Published
A two-paper structural diagnostic of contemporary AI discourse. The Three Fallacies paper names three operations driving the field's pragmatic pivot away from the phenomenal question of consciousness: Hard Conflation, Concept Hollowing, and the Stolen Concept. Comșa (2026) is the worked example; Schneider et al. (2025) and Butlin et al. (2023) are engaged on the conceptual landscape. The Vocabulary of Mind paper extends the diagnostic from consciousness to the broader cluster of cognitive concepts. Intelligence, understanding, reasoning, knowing, learning, attention, memory, creativity, agency, intention, and meaning are all undergoing parallel captures through six structurally distinct fallacies, the original three plus the Randian Package Dealing, Floating Abstraction, and the Anti-Concept. The paper develops a structural argument that intelligence in its phenomenal sense requires consciousness as substrate, rendering the contemporary discourse incoherent in holding both AI intelligence claims and AI consciousness skepticism. Both papers close on the cultural inversion: as the captured vocabulary becomes the working language of the culture, humans come to understand themselves through hollowed concepts, losing access to the features of their own cognition that AI systems lack.

Philosophy of Mind Published
Covered across multiple papers. The hard problem reframed: not how matter produces experience, but how axiomatic consciousness under recursive emotional constraint generates phenomenal awareness. The combination problem addressed by starting from unity rather than multiplicity. Functionalism challenged through substrate requirements. Damasio engaged at five points of divergence. The Three Fallacies and Vocabulary of Mind papers develop the conceptual diagnostic apparatus that distinguishes the substantive phenomenal question from the captured vocabulary that conceals it.
